Betfair is not a bookmaker it is a betting exchange – and every serious punter should have a Betfair account. Read on to find out why.

When Betfair launched it was a revolutionary addition to the betting industry.

Betfair definitely has its pros and cons, the upside being that it can provide punters with a lot more value as well as a lot more control – the downside, is that most people who bet recreationally for fun often don’t take the time to learn how to use an exchange, or even know what one is.

This review aims to fix all that, and in addition to providing a detailed review on Betfair, it will provide you with all the basics you need to start betting on a betting exchange.

PROS

  • Ability to back, lay and trade bets
  • Better odds due to no margin in the markets
  • No limits on bet size

CONS

  • Commission taken from winnings
  • Minimum bet size
  • Can't always get bets matched

Previously known as Sportsbetting.com.au, Boombet is one of the oldest online Australian-based bookmakers, having been around since 1998.

BoomBet’s major claim is that they offer great fixed odds, a fact that’s hard to argue when comparing them against other bookies. It was even part of their previous slogan as Sportsbetting.com.au: “No Gimmicks. Just great fixed odds betting.” However that’s not to say they’re not looking to drive innovation, one of their unique features is HotBet which lets you follow other tipsters and gives an indication of the most successful users based on past results. So with their new brand and slogan of “Get in on the Boom” it’s safe to assume they’ll have some exciting updates to their product in the not too distant future.

We’ve explored what BoomBet has to offer account holders in relation to markets, odds, interface use and odds in our full review below.

PROS

  • Good fixed odds on racing
  • Trusted and established bookmaker under a new brand
  • Social media support

CONS

  • Early markets unavailable
  • No live phone betting
